Love of School
This session, we divided our academic leaderboard into four ranked “divisions.” Students who finish at the top or bottom of their division move up or down weekly. This creates more “competitive zones” — and a greater number of engaged students — vs. one overall leaderboard.
This week, four different students told me how worried they were about failing their Imagine Math lessons. Overcoming that fear of failure — and trusting adaptive learning apps to do their work — is a critical shift for students coming from traditional classrooms.
The school snack shop reopened this week and confirmed the need for a personal finance workshop. 50% of students paying with school currency on practice debit cards overdrew their accounts on day one — they weren’t aware of their balances and didn’t check before making purchases.
